Rodent surgery, especially in mice, presents considerable challenges due to their diminutive size and limited visibility during procedures. These issues can lead to unnecessary tissue damage, prolonged recovery times, and heightened variability in disease models. To address these challenges, we have developed innovative precision surgical techniques through a comprehensive microsurgery training system and workshop to enhance animal welfare while ensuring consistency in surgically induced experimental models.
Training will commence in the morning with customized simulation tools replicating real surgical scenarios, enabling trainees to hone essential microsurgical skills before engaging with live animals. This approach not only minimizes animal use but also enhances the success rates of surgical procedures. In the afternoon, participants will practice the mouse carotid artery cannulation procedure, allowing them to master crucial surgical techniques in living animals that are foundational for advanced surgical models, such as Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion (MCAO) and telemetry implantations.
This course is suitable for…
Veterinarians, technicians, and research fellows who are currently involved in or will be working with rodent microsurgery procedures.
